This beautiful route starts from the meeting point in Piazza dei Cinquecento where you will board our bus that will take us towards Via Appia Antica. It is the road that most of all presents very interesting archaeological, artistic and landscape elements. The most famous stretch of Appia Antica begins with the Quo Vadis Chapel, erroneous on the place where St. Peter had a vision of Christ. Later you will go to visit one of the best known Catacombs of Rome, the ancient Christian cemeteries. The Catacombs of S. Sebastiano built on a pozzolana quarry, the underground tunnels here were used for the first Christian burials. With the spread of Christianity in Rome they were considerably enlarged, digging tunnels on several floors for kilometers and kilometers, to form an inextricable web, in which it is easy to get lost. The Catacombs of S. Callisto boast another primacy, that of having been the oldest official cemetery of the Christian community of Rome. Instead, the Catacombs of Domitilla are perhaps the largest in Rome, so called from the name of the Christian noblewoman, a member of the Flavian imperial family, to which the area belonged. From here you will return to the center on board the bus along Via Cristoforo Colombo. Scala Santa would be the same that Jesus went up to the house of Pilate, brought to Rome by the Empress Helen whose steps can only be climbed on knees. You will continue with the visit inside the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano is the first of the four major papal basilicas and the oldest and most impressive basilica in the West. Located on the Celio hill, the basilica is the material representation of the Holy See, which has its residence here. The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is the largest of many others dedicated to the Virgin which in August 356 appeared in the dreams of Pope Liberius, commanding the erection of a church on the spot where the snow fell the next day. An unforgettable experience that you will take home and I assure you that you will want to return to this beautiful city.
